Drama Section

Scunthorpe Musical Festival joined the British and International Federation of Festivals in 1924. Over the years we have grown into three flourishing sections, each lasting a full week. In addition we organise a week’s residential drama summer school at BISHOP GROSSETESTE UNIVERSITY COLLEGE, LINCOLN.

In October 2011, we were awarded a Gold Medal by the Federation for our organisational skills and we are well-known for being a friendly festival.

In October 2011, we were awarded a Gold Medal by the Federation for our organisational skills and we are well-known for being a friendly festival.

We aim to encourage young people from all areas to gain confidence in public, to share experiences and with the help of professionals to make progress in their chosen disciplines.

Our major strengths are always using federation adjudicators, having all necessary stewards C.R.B. checked

Performing Arts Festivals Championships

REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Fantastic day. Brilliant atmosphere. Difficult to describe the variety and standard of the performers.

In the newly built Carleton Community College, Pontefract, in front of an excellent audience, we saw 34 performances ranging from marimba – cello – singing – Greek dance – ballet – solo dramatic – verse speaking.

We were truly proud of the three representatives from Scunthorpe.

First Oliver Charles-Lee delighted everyone with his “Gypsy Songs” played with great technique and feeling on the saxophone.

In the afternoon Kamya Gandhi interpreted an extract from “Charlotte’s Web” beautifully, using a full range of vocal tone and movement.

Finally Leah Darby performed her modern dance routine, in striking harlequin costume, so superbly that at the end of the afternoon she was awarded the dancers’ trophy and £100.

Well done Oliver, Kamya and Leah. You were excellent.
